Come see me and buy super-sweet prints, stickers, buttons, comics and commissions! -> http://www.colossalcon.com Ohayocon was a lot of fun! I think I did pretty well as an individual, I saw lots of friends, I had a wonderful assistant (and an assistant’s assistant, heehee), and great table neighbors and room buddies! So, I bring you a few commissions from the con. Enjoy! First up is a black and white/basic color bust! I was offering these at the con for $20. The second is a badge of Kagamine Len, a character from the Vocaloid video game series! Badges go for $10-15, plus shipping! GET YOUR COMMISSIONS NOOOOOW! Happy 2011, universe! Let’s end the first week of this here new year with another cute-ified commission from my friend Wes! Also, soon I’ll be sending postcards out to art directors, because after buying a small amount (thank you, OvernightPrints.com for your sales), I sent one to myself and it came back with all the right markings, keeping pretty much all my art in tact. (Though, it seemed to a lil’ ravaged in the mail…) I am, however, annoyed that the word “Creator” got partially cut off. I may fix that before I get a new batch. So, tonight I met Gary Dumm, the artist of the American Splendor comics, at a meeting of the Northern Ohio Illustrators Society. He was extremely friendly and just such a cool, relaxed guy (and his wife was pleasant, too). I gave him a postcard and business card and he seemed excited to receive them. He said we may talk again soon, and I said, “Even if it’s just an email saying, ‘Hey, I remember you!’, I’ll be satisfied!”. He also had a really relaxed opinion on the adaptation of books to movies and vice versa, so then he really became one of my new heroes. I also got to catch up with my instructors/colleagues from school, one of whom is a seasoned art director and designer Larry O’Neal. He gave me sage advice about what to do now that my brain and life are more stable than they were when I graduated in 2009. Needless to say, I feel better about this whole artist thing now that he put it back in perspective for me. LET’S DO THIS THING!!! Ideas 1 and 2 are like an oversized trading card, the front has my image in a very SUPERHERO COMIC ARTIST EXTREME pose, and the back has “stats”, which is my contact information, for the most part, and strengths/”weaknesses” (Strengths: pencil, marker, bright colors; Weaknesses: no wifi, broken glasses). I can have different character drawings, or more self-portraits, and they can be collectible, if folks so desire. Idea 3 puts two postcards together to make one large image, so they’re collectible, too; they’re also supposed to work individually. These ones have an opposites theme. I’d have them at conventions, and I want to send them to art directors at magazines, companies, etc. I’m also thinking of having a less-cartoony, more “serious” card/set of cards, with a brand new drawing, or a collection of artwork with some kind of border, not entirely sure, but NOT BORING! |
