Dr. Sketchy Post #2

The other night I went to my local Dr. Sketchy session, and it was FABULOUS.  Great model, wonderful drawings (and even some mixed media!) from a nice group of people.  Here’s the second of a short series of two posts with my favorite sketches from the session!

The theme for the night was Bond girls!

Sh’ing’zo’lo Homework 4: Repeating Imagery

Hurray for moar Sh’ing’zo’lo Homework!  This week’s prompt was to create something with a repeat image.  I decided it was high time for some type fun.  Here we have two ballerinas made of type, inspired by cameo portraiture.  I wanted an “updated old greeting card” kind of look.

Adobe Illustrator Photoshop.  Paper texture care of the wonderful Plaintextures.com.  Fonts: Adobe Garamond Pro (my favorite font to illustrate with), old school Garamond,  and the MaryJane family.

Next week’s prompt: a break from homework to do a figure study!  I get to render, yay!

Typography Poster: Bobby Chiu Quote

I bringeth to you fine folks a poster of a quote from amazing illustrator Bobby Chiu, from a news article he wrote on DeviantArt titled, “10 beneficial things artists should ask themselves“.

With some experimentation, I decided I wanted it to look, well, punchy, with capital letters that ended up in a retro style that’s a little rounded and not as harsh as something like .  Also, it uses the same colors, and the background texture is the same material upon which, artists often use to sketch and ideate (black/grey and white, brown) to evoke the materials used for such.  Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop.  Texture by PlainTextures.com.
