Hey everyone – I was given the critique that the page the girl is holding up in the “Reading” pic is too “fluid, like fabric”, and was told that it would look “better” if I made it stiffer. Thoughts? As a note, I haven’t been given a reason as to what level of betterness the piece would achieve should I make the change.
The fluidity of the paper may not be “technically” correct, but adds it fits the feel of the work. Sarah and I were reviewing it and she commented that the paper/sheet is a double entendre and besides, who wants scratchy paper on their . . . skin. ;-)
It does look more like fabric than paper, and I can’t really decide if it would look better if it were stiffer with maybe a corner curling down. Try a quick sketch of it the other way in Photoshop and see if it adds anything? I think if you just erased some of the extra lines on the paper, it wouldn’t look so drapey. Actually yeah, I think if you erased those, and maybe smoothed out the bottom of the page where it’s curling up around her, you could get away with the drape of the top of the page. Try that. It’s a compromise and still allows for a bit of stylization and artistic license while looking more like paper.
Meghann has some good suggestions.
Actually, based upon Meghann’s “Yokai Screen” and the “Daeva-Kiss of the Succubus” pieces do what ever she tells you. Meghann, your work is incredible!
