Come say hi and buy cool stuff! Hurray for moar Sh’ing’zo’lo Homework! This week’s prompt was to create something with a repeat image. I decided it was high time for some type fun. Here we have two ballerinas made of type, inspired by cameo portraiture. I wanted an “updated old greeting card” kind of look. Adobe Illustrator Photoshop. Paper texture care of the wonderful Plaintextures.com. Fonts: Adobe Garamond Pro (my favorite font to illustrate with), old school Garamond, and the MaryJane family. Next week’s prompt: a break from homework to do a figure study! I get to render, yay! Okay, people, this is spoilerville, but it’s fair game because Harry Potter’s been over for nearly 4 years. :P I drew this for consideration for the upcoming HP art book from the awesome folks at MuggleNet. I hope it gets in and published!!! Anywho, I’ve been on a lil bit of a “memento mori” kick lately, in addition to a continuing interest in the Day of the Dead, playing with the idea of honoring the dead in a creepy yet oddly comforting way. Technical pen, Photoshop. Pick an obscure fairy tale and illustrate something from it or design the characters! I picked The Juniper Tree, a rather creepy story: a woman who wishes for a child beneath a juniper tree, but dies just after her wish comes true and she gives birth to a son. Her husband remarries a wonderfully horrid woman who loves her own daughter and hates her stepson. One day he asks for an apple from a large chest and she decapitates him with the lid. The fun continues from there!!! :D Click the link above to read the whole story! I’m glad it was my turn to suggest this, I’ve been wanting to adapt this story into a comic for a really long time. I didn’t get to design every character, but I did manage to draw Father, Stepmother, and Brother. I decided to make them Medieval (16th century, in this case) German nobility, nearly royalty. The funny thing about high-class families? They dressed their children up as mini versions of themselves, so it’s kind of easy to draw medieval rich kids because they look like their parents, no extra references required. :P Also, enjoy attempting to read my notes, I take a lot. :D Whoo! Fun with headshot commissions! This is Major Ocelot from Metal Gear Solid 3. Make sure to click the image for the FULL SIZE EXPERIENCE. My first assignment as a part of the Shingz! Homework group! The prompt was to draw anything inspired by the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s work. I was super-inspired by this sculptural piece of his: http://bit.ly/h1TH6Y Check out more Homework from fellow Shingzers Shy Custis, Renee Britton, and Rachel Britton! Technical pen, Photoshop. |
